I think that the Colossus was created not over or near the harbor in Rhodes but on a nearby hill or elevated land because when it fell it would have fallen into the water in or outside of the harbor. The Colossus was so big that it needed to be on land to build because the people that built it had to use a giant mound of earth to complete the monument of Helios. I believe that the Colossus stood at least one quarter of a mile from the border of Rhodes. It would have to be that far because if it wasn't it would be hard to build so close to the shore. This bronze beauty was probably on the more eastern side of the island because that is where the harbor is located and it faces the sun. It would be to me considered a crime against Helios the SUN god to not make it face on the direction of the sun. This proof only makes the Colossus' legacy an incorrect fame. This fame was only believed until very recently (around sixty to eighty years ago). People have been trying to find out about whether the Colossus was real for years and now that we have evidence we can guess where it stood. The evidence is very minimal but it gives us a lot to know about in history. |
