The Colossus of Rhodes has inspired and awed many in it's years of existance but it's soul lives in the light and sturdy Statue of Liberty. The Colossus of Rhodes is pretty much Lady Liberty's dad. Auguste Bartholdi, the designer of the Statue of Liberty, was very inspired by the Colossus in his artistic bronze campaign. The Statue of Liberty has and still does welcome many people to the United States of America. The Colossus was created for similar reasons as the Statue of Liberty, to commemorate a successful defense against Demetrios Poliorketes and his army. And they sit near the entry of the harbor. The Statue of Liberty was created to symbolize freedom as immigrats arrived in New York's harbor. The two colossi are very similar in size and they are both bronze plated with a strong frame. They even both stand on a similar pedastool. One is a god and one is a goddess. The colossus has not only inspired just Lady Liberty in New York, it also inspired art since its creation and it has become a symbol of bronze work through the ages.
